Representation

Kai Nakamura is HotMales Model Management's resident creative practitioner. A graduate of a film program he prefers not to identify, Kai entered representation in 2022 to fund the completion of his debut feature screenplay, "The Stillness Between," which is currently in its eleventh draft.

Kai brings a director's eye to every engagement and frequently proposes lighting changes mid-booking. He specializes in creative direction, intimate portraiture, and what he describes as "long-form private collaborations." Clients consistently describe his work as "thoughtful," "intense," and "longer than expected."

He has read Tarkovsky's *Sculpting in Time* on three separate occasions, two of them out loud. His Letterboxd account is private but his ratings can be inferred from his bookings.

He is not on Instagram for "philosophical reasons."

How would you describe what you do?

I'm not modeling, exactly. I'm composing — using the body the way a cinematographer uses light. A booking, for me, is closer to a long take than a still photograph. The client and I are, in a sense, collaborators on a document we never publish.

What's your dream project?

The screenplay, obviously. After that — a series of long-form private commissions with the right subjects. People who understand that presence is its own form of cinema. There's a take in Béla Tarr's 'Werckmeister Harmonies' that — anyway. That feeling.

What kind of client are you a fit for?

Someone who reads. Someone who can sit with silence. Someone who understands that the most meaningful moment in any engagement is usually the one right before something happens, not the thing itself.

What do you bring to a booking?

Attention. Real attention is rare. Most people are waiting to talk. I'm trying to see. The client feels it. It's the whole transaction, really.

When will the screenplay be done?

It's not 'done' that I'm interested in. It's right. There's a draft I'm sitting with now. I think it's the one. We'll see.

long engagement uptown. we didn't speak for the first hour. then we did, for the next six. there was a kind of late-Akerman quality to it that i won't try to explain

modeling is a misnomer. what we're doing — the better ones of us — is durational performance. some clients understand this. those are the bookings i take

if your portfolio is just gym mirrors and brand collabs you are not building a body of work you are building a content feed there's a difference

Client Notes

Kai spent forty minutes adjusting the lighting in my own living room before our engagement formally began. He then sat across from me in silence for what he described as 'the establishing shot.' I haven't stopped thinking about it.
Dr. E.M., Brooklyn
I booked Kai for a weekend. He brought one (1) duffel and three books. He read the books to me. I am rebooking in February.
Anonymous, LA
He referenced 'Jeanne Dielman' over breakfast. I had to look it up. The booking was excellent. Slightly demanding emotionally.
